Alpine Police Department officers arrested a 16-year-old juvenile in connection with a Sunday morning stabbing, according to a news release on the department’s Facebook page. Officers were dispatched to the Big Bend Regional Medical Clinic, where they found a 21-year-old man with several stab wounds.

The victim told police the attack happened at the 2000 block of Peach Tree Circle in Alpine, and officers were able to track down and arrest the suspect. Police are withholding the arrested individual’s name because he is a juvenile. Alpine Police Lt. Felipe Fierro identified the victim as Elijah Gongora of Medina. Gongora also is a Sul Ross State University student, he said.

Gongora was airlifted to an El Paso hospital where he was expected to be released, the release said.
