Dear Editor,
The Big Bend Reproductive Coalition would like to thank The Marfa Municipal Alliance for including us in their Agave Fest event last Friday. We got to hear some great music, make meaningful connections, and provide educational resources to the many folks who stopped by our table to learn about reproductive healthcare. The event raised an incredible $1,077, which will be used to support West Texans needing access to reproductive healthcare, including pregnancy tests and emergency contraceptives.
Thank you for your support.
With deep appreciation,
Lisa Kettyle

To the Editor,
Juneteenth, June 19, 1865. The day thousands of U.S. federal troops landed in Galveston Texas, in order to force the release of slaves after the Civil War had ended. Even though slaves were ordered set free by a Republican-controlled U.S. government’s Emancipation Proclamation, many Texans chose not to voluntarily do so.
Nowadays you don’t hear much about those who made Juneteenth happen, as in the POTUS, federal government officials, and the soldiers sent to enforce the emancipation of slaves being
held by Texas Democrats. Might this be because those responsible for the release of these slaves may have been mostly white Republicans? The road to an open mind is paved with the acceptance of reality. The road to a narrow mind is paved with the denial of truth. Which road have you taken?

Dear Editor
Last week you published a letter from Josh Rudin, a frequent past visitor to Marfa, who described his frustration with the Marfa business community while he was trying to plan a big 60th birthday bash weekend in Marfa. He was trying to bring 30 people and his $75,000 event budget to Marfa, but he gave up due to the lack of engagement and responsiveness from various enterprises he was trying to bring revenue to, saying “it was so difficult to work with many of them.” He gave up and took his party of 30 and $75,000 to a much more enthusiastic, receptive, and business appreciative small town in Montana.
Josh, here’s some advice should you want to try again to bring a bunch of friends and family and $$$ to Marfa. Just tell the “Marfa business community” that your visit will be a LGBTQ Pride artistic retreat that will include an anti-Israel slanted Gaza War cease-fire rally, a pro-open borders march, and a pro-unlimited abortion…no, better call that “reproductive health rights”…convocation. Do that and I’ll bet you find that many of those members of the Marfa business community who more or less blew you off before will all be progressively at your service!
