MARFA — Marfa Public Library invites the community to stop by the sizzling finale of Kid Café — the only cafe made by kids, for kids — today, Thursday, June 27, at 11:30 a.m. in the library courtyard.

As part of this year’s MISD Summer Shakeup, the library continues their annual summer camp, Kid Café, where students visit local restaurants for hands-on cooking instruction and behind-the-scenes peeks at working kitchens. This year they stopped by Asters, Para Llevar and Bitter Sugar, with a special Little Juice demo at the library. At Asters, they made lemon ricotta pancakes; at Para Llevar, they prepared homemade pizza sauce; and at Bitter Sugar, they baked kolaches. Plus Little Juice showed them how to press fruits to make juice and popsicles!

After visiting each restaurant, students decorated chef hats and aprons, taste-tested foods, and tried their hand at cooking. This year was the most ambitious yet, where they learned how to make homemade pizza (dough and everything!). The week finishes today with students opening their own pizzeria and showcasing their masterpieces to the world. They’ll be serving pizza, Italian sodas, and popsicles in the library courtyard. Stop by at 11:30 a.m. to try their creations (while supplies last).

Special thanks to everyone who made Kid Café possible, including Interim Superintendent Arturo Alferez, Fatima Anaza, Asters Cafe, Bitter Sugar, Beau Buck, Rene Cardona, Chinati Foundation, Friends of the Marfa Public Library, Emily Fule, Sara Goodleaf, Pearl Hesselden, Little Juice, Michelle Lawhorn, MISD, Maria Medrano, Para Llevar, Adele Powers, Michael Roch, Sammy Serdar Espinoza, Lindsay Smith, Lesly Torres and Amy White.
