
Jesus Sotelo Torres, 87, of Presidio, Texas, died Monday, June 24, 2024, in Presidio. Jesus was born October 9, 1936 in Marfa, Texas. Jesus graduated from one of the last classes of Blackwell School in Marfa. In 2017, Jesus had the opportunity to be interviewed by National Public Radio in which he provided his experience in attending Blackwell. He attributed this experience to inspiring him to become a teacher. Before reaching his dream of becoming an educator, Jesus proudly served his country by enlisting in the United States Army and served for 13 years. Upon completion of his service, he began his road to becoming an educator by attending Odessa College and then went on to complete his studies at Sul Ross University in Alpine, Texas. Jesus achieved his goal of becoming an educator and for many years was a proud educator in Presidio. Jesus proudly achieved many accomplishments in his years on earth and will be missed by many.
Jesus is preceded in death by his parents, Rosendo and Juana Torres; his brothers, Luis, Manuel and Oscar Torres; and his sisters, Anita Chavez, Maria Pantoja, Lydia Mitchell, Socorro Gonzalez and Lucilla Quintanar. He is survived by his brother Jose Torres of Odessa, Texas; his sister Elisa Fierro of Midland, Texas; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral Mass will be held July 27, 2024, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Marfa. Immediately following Mass, inurnment of his ashes, with Honor Guard, will be held at Cementerio de Merced in Marfa.
