BIG BEND — The Big Bend Sentinel launched a new online feature — Around the Big Bend — designed to let our community find and post events. The response to our weekly print calendar has been great, so we’re taking it a step further by bringing it online too. You can get a weekly reminder by signing up the email newsletter below.
Anyone can post events for free, with options to boost visibility with payment. The calendar already is pre-populated with postings on other websites around the Big Bend, which makes it the go-to place for anyone interested in what’s going on in Marfa, Presidio, Fort Davis, Alpine, Marathon, Terlingua and beyond.
You can also search by topic, such as “music,” or location, like “Marathon.” Clicking on the event takes you to more detailed information with a link to the event sponsor’s website. Additionally, many local government meetings are automatically included, giving you quick access to meeting dates, times and agendas.
Adding an event is easy. Go to www.bigbendsentinel.com/events to visit the calendar and click “Add Event,” a little brown box under the first rotating row of events. You will then need to create an account with City Spark, the platform running the calendar. Then fill in the details of your event and upload a photo or your brand if wanted. You can also create recurring events for things like art or yoga classes. Once we approve the event it goes online, so be patient if you don’t see it immediately.
Coming soon will be an Around the Big Bend email newsletter that keeps you up to date with all the happenings in Far West Texas. The Sentinel will have a sign-up form to get the newsletter online soon.
A shorter version of the calendar can always be found on our home page with a link to the full page of events, and it will be included in the weekly newsletters. If you encounter any issues with the calendar, email editor@bigbendsentinel.com.
