FORT DAVIS — Rocky Mountain Outdoor Writers and Photographers (RMOWP) plans a conference in Fort Davis Tuesday, October 1, through Friday, October 4, with writing and photography workshops and field trips to area attractions, including a barbecue dinner, hayride, and star party at Prude Ranch.

Trips are also planned to Davis Mountain Nature Conservancy, Davis Mountain State Park, Historic Fort Davis National Monument, and Chihuahua Desert Research Institute. Night sky photography will be a highlight, including workshops on astrophotography and time lapse photography, plus programs on writing local history and getting the most out of photo tours. There will also be photo and writing critiques.

Formed in 1973, Rocky Mountain Outdoor Writers and Photographers is an organization of professional and semi-professional photographers, writers, cinematographers, and artists who specialize in outdoor subjects, ranging from fishing and hunting to hiking and exploring public lands, with an emphasis on activities in the American West.

Each year RMOWP holds a conference at a different location, offering members an opportunity to improve their skills through workshops and field trips, share experiences, and explore local attractions. Non-members of the nonprofit group are also welcome and can get details at www.rmowp.org.
