MARFA — City Manager Mandy Roane tendered her resignation to Marfa City Council members on Thursday last week after over four years in the top administrative role.

Roane became the city manager for Marfa in the summer of 2020, having previously served as the community services director and library director. Her employment with the city dates back to April 2013.

Her last day as Marfa’s city manager will be October 4. Roane told The Big Bend Sentinel she will remain in the area and take on a similar management job in the private sector. She said she is confident the city is in good hands with current staff and council in place.

“It was a hard decision. I’ve really enjoyed my time at the city,” Roane said. “I think that staff and council and admin have worked together to do some really great things, and I have no doubt that they will continue to do great things and continue to do the best work possible for the citizens of Marfa.”

Roane said City Council members will discuss next steps for the vacant city manager position at their regularly scheduled meeting later this month on September 26. But, in the meantime, City Secretary Kelly Perez is unofficially filling in as needed.

Mayor Manny Baeza said Roane was an asset to the city and will be greatly missed. “Her hard work and dedication brought in over one million in grants to the City of Marfa and her leadership will be missed throughout all departments,” Baeza said. “I understand that it was a difficult decision for her to leave her role with the city, but I wish her well in her future endeavors.”
