MARFA — Get your Loretta Lynn going Friday night, Sept. 20, at Planet Marfa for a celebration of the First Lady of Country Music with local musicians playing her riffs and singing her songs to benefit the Marfa Education Foundation — which provides scholarships and funding to Marfa ISD programs and teachers.

The Marfa Municipal Alliance for Dead Country and Folk Singers is spearheading the benefit. Band members have been diligently practicing for weeks to make sure their Coal Miner’s Daughter tunes are in tune. Songs include her hits ‘Coal Miner’s Daughter,” “Fist City,” “The Pill,” along with some deeper cuts from earlier years. The event is made possible by a HOT grant from the City of Marfa.

Primo y Beebe kick off the show at 7 p.m. followed by some 15-plus musicians and guest singers hitting the stage with the alliance. Admission to the show is free, but bring your money to help support our local students and teachers, or donate online at marfaeducationfoundation.org/our-supporters.
