PRESIDIO –– Around 9:20 on Friday morning, a pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle near the intersection of Highway 67 and Rosedale Avenue. Local law enforcement responded to the scene and an investigation has been handed over to the state.
Presidio Police Chief Adan Covos said that he did not plan to immediately release the identities of the driver or of the deceased, but wanted locals to be aware of the situation in light of recent violence across the river in Ojinaga. He said that the incident was completely unconnected to this morning’s grisly discovery of eleven more dead in an ongoing cartel shoot-out.
According to Covos, his department quickly ruled the death an accident instead of an intentional crime. “The person in the vehicle was not really at fault because there are no crosswalks there,” he told the Big Bend Sentinel.
