Kenneth (“Ken” or “Doc”) Watson, age 65, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, in Kansas after a hunting trip there. Born in Texas to loving parents Maurice Sr. and Anne Watson, he was a lifelong true Texan who only briefly lived in the sands of New Mexico. He was the youngest of three mischievous brothers and led a fun childhood full of obnoxious pranks and wild adventures. Ken graduated from high school and later in life went on to graduate from university with a degree in criminal justice.

Ken married the love of his life who was charmed by his sweet, sassy demeanor. They were happily married for over 45 wonderful years. He always said God had a sense of humor giving him three girls, and he loved his three daughters greatly. Growing up with Ken as a dad was never dull and chock full of all the corny dad jokes one could muster. Ken led the whole family on great adventures, camping trips, treasure hunts, and to a Godly life. He enriched our lives and instilled moral fibers that will be part of our beings forever. He was a great example to so many, or as he would put it, “I resemble that remark.” 

Ken worked in multiple roles of law enforcement for over 40 years and had a passion for serving and protecting others. More than 30 of those years was spent with Texas Parks and Wildlife, and his most recent role was as a park manager. His wife was beside him always as a volunteer throughout Ken’s career.

Ken will always be remembered for his big heart, ornery moments, infectious smile and hearty laugh. He was a joy to be around and a great listener. And we will miss him beyond measure.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Tammy; their three daughters and their families, Kami and Jeremy Helm, Nickie and Larame Burress, Mikea Watson and significant other Keith Jones; grandkids Dylan, Seth, Elyse and her husband Jay, Jayda, Bailey, Caden, Logan, Kenlee, Colten and Loralye; and by his great-grandsons Pierce and Dante; also his brothers and their families Dale and Rita Watson, Mike and Martha Watson; as well as many nieces and nephews and great-nieces, nephews and cousins. He is preceded in death by his father and mother, Maurice and Anne Watson; and one niece, Amber Watson.

The services will be held at 2:00pm, Friday, October 11, 2024, in Granbury, Texas, at the new Wiley Center Building, 420 Hwy 377 East, Granbury, TX 76048. Arrangements are by Wiley Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Granbury (817) 573-3000.

In his 30+ year career with Texas Parks and Wildlife and through volunteering in local communities, Doc was especially energized when engaging youth in mentored hunts. Doc would give selflessly of himself in prepping and guiding youth hunts to ensure lasting memories and a positive introduction to the outdoors.
