Reason 9,785,310 I love living in Far West Texas:

Saturday November 9, I was driving a sunset-avoiding route from Sul Ross to the Holland Hotel where I was planning to get ready for the banquet of the annual conference of the Center for Big Bend Studies when I realized I had a flat tire.

I made it to the parking lot in front of the Cricket shop. Thank goodness, the shop was open. The lovely woman working there let me use a phone. (This 77-year-old eschews cell phones.) I called an Alpine friend. She was on her ranch but arranged for two angels, in the guise of a terrific young couple, to come help me. They arrived in ten minutes, cheerfully rectified the situation, and escorted me to the hotel. I missed the banquet but my faith in the human race, which was critically wounded by the election, has been bolstered.

Now, if it would only rain!

Sometimes the pundits get it right. Too bad it was over a hundred years ago.

As democracy is perfected, the office of the President represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. On some great and glorious day, the plain folks of the land will reach their heart’s desire at last, and the White House will be occupied by a downright fool and complete narcissistic moron.

Dear Editor,

Trump skates as America votes itself another four-year sentence.

To the Editor,

I’ve come to realize the main reason that I admire Donald J. Trump is his ability to control his actions. With all his money and power he doesn’t retaliate against his enemies with the same horrific, or even worse actions, that they apply toward him. If I, on the other hand, had a billion dollars at my disposal I fear the evil that might transpire, making me a lesser man than Donald J. Trump. Jesus once said, “I did come not in peace, but with a sword.” I recognize that sword as being his knowledge, truth, and wisdom. I firmly believe that Donald J. Trump uses a similar sword in his actions. With that said I say God bless this wonderful country we call America, and may God also bless Donald J. Trump, although I get the feeling that he already has.
