MARFA — The Marfa Chamber of Commerce invites the community to participate in a holiday parade and tree lighting this Sunday, December 8, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. in downtown Marfa.
All are welcome to join in the parade, Chamber Secretary Lindsay Smith said. “You do not have to have a float. You can walk. You can bring dressed up pets and walk them in the parade. You could come play music,” Smith said. “It is a nighttime parade, so holiday lights are heavily encouraged.”
The parade will start on West Oak — those participating can gather at the library as early as 5 p.m. — and proceed down Highland Avenue towards the courthouse. “The idea is to bring everybody to the courthouse for the tree lighting, so they’ll kind of follow the parade up,” Smith said.
Once at the courthouse a holiday tree lighting — with lights sponsored by Yoseff Ben-Yehuda of Marfa Hardware — will take place. Smith said the Chamber has a community sing along, snacks and warm beverages and activities for kids including a letter writing station sponsored by the Post Office planned. Santa will be making a special stop in Marfa to appear at the event.
Another festive Chamber celebration, hosted in collaboration with Lesley Villarreal of Love, Marfa, will take the form of a Holiday Shopping Crawl across town Saturday, December 14, and Sunday, December 15.
