MARFA — The Marfa Shorthorns are gearing up for a second straight weekend of competition as they head to Van Horn for the Van Horn Eagles Basketball Tournament. Both the boys and girls teams are entering the tourney with momentum, aiming to secure key wins early in the season.
The boys team, riding a three-game winning streak, will face Van Horn in their opening game on Thursday at 8 a.m. Meanwhile, the girls team is set to take on Fort Davis at 11 a.m. Both teams are eager to prove themselves and advance through the tournament bracket.

Leading the charge for the Shorthorns are standout juniors Alejandro Rodriguez for the boys and Raven Martinez for the girls. Both have been pivotal in their teams’ success so far this season, showcasing skill, leadership, and four-plus games of double digit scoring, rebounds and assists.
The tournament will be a great opportunity for both squads to test their abilities against strong competition as they prepare to enter the district season.
