TRI-COUNTY — Are you thinking of getting a telescope to explore the cosmos? If you’re new to the hobby (or in need of a refresher), you can learn the basics in one of McDonald Observatory’s upcoming Telescopes 101 workshops.
Through a mix of classroom and hands-on instruction, participants learn about the most common types of telescopes, their mounts, accessories, and how to use them. This includes practice finding objects in the sky, guided by astronomy experts.McDonald Observatory holds these workshops several times a year. Upcoming dates include January 8, February 5, and April 9, though more are expected throughout 2025. For residents of Jeff Davis, Brewster, and Presidio counties, workshops are free; for all others, workshops cost $10.
