MARFA — The Marfa Shorthorns continue to assert their dominance in district competition, with both the boys’ and girls’ basketball teams emerging as top contenders after the first round of play.

The Shorthorn boys have secured first place in the district standings after one round, displaying a dynamic and disciplined style of play. Head Coach Arron Luna continues to fine tune the shorthorns with a disciplined and hardworking approach at practices with meticulous preparation, while Alejandro Rodriguez (junior guard) has been a key factor in their success, leading the team’s offense with his impressive scoring ability. His performance on the court has helped the team maintain their momentum and solidify their position at the top of the district leaderboard.

On the girls’ side, the Lady Shorthorns are holding strong in second place, with only one loss to Balmorhea, with Ava Flores and Raven Martinez providing consistent leadership on offense. 

The duo continues to control the pace of the game and create scoring opportunities which has  been crucial for the team’s success. Both players have shown remarkable poise, helping the Lady Shorthorns remain competitive against tough district rivals.

As the teams head into the second round of district play, the Shorthorns remain focused on their goals. Both teams are determined to make deep playoff runs.
