Ruben Lara Nunez, 83 years old, a proud Vietnam War veteran, passed away on January 6, 2025, in Midland, Texas, after a long battle with fibrosis of the lungs, which he fought to the end.

He passed at home, the way he wanted to. Ruben was born in Marfa, Texas, to Calistro and Lupe Nunez. Ruben joined the army on December 3, 1964. He served until being honorably discharged on December 2, 1967.

He was the oldest “Big Brother,” survived by three brothers, Oscar, Calistro Jr., and Ramon; three sisters, Lorina, Socorro and Viola (who he loved); his son James I. Nunez; and grandson James Ruben Nunez and bonus granddaughter Meranda Robles Carrasco (who he cared deeply for).

He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Pearl Nunez, and his parents, Calistro and Lupe Nunez.

He enjoyed golfing and was a gun enthusiast. He loved watching old Clint Eastwood and Western movies. He was a member of Mid-Cities Church. Due to Agent Orange exposure from the Vietnam War, the last 10 years he spent fighting off an awful lung disease, fibrosis, he was finally promoted up to be with the Lord Jesus and in no more suffering. (Amen to that)

Services will be held either in March or April for both Ruben and Pearl Nunez.

Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland.
