Viola Marie Winn, age 83, of Kermit, Texas, went to be with the Lord, January 23, 2025. She was born in Fort Stockton, Texas, on May 9, 1941 to the late Juan Moreno and Camila Carrasco Moreno. She is a graduate of Artesia High School in Artesia, New Mexico, and went on to work for the United States Postal Service and became a postmaster.
She is survived by her son, Johnny Gonzales and wife Sonya of Hawkins, Texas; daughters Clarissa Zimmerman of Granbury, Texas, Julia Roberson and husband Daniel of Midland, Texas; sisters Pat Deanda and husband Jimmy of Oro Valley, Arizona, Lupe M. Pressey and husband Randall of Tucson, Arizona, Hilda Moreno of Artesia, New Mexico; brothers Ancieto Moreno and wife Sandy of Artesia, Johnny Moreno and wife Rennie of Albuquerque, Oscar Moreno and wife Dominga of Artesia, sister-in-law Valerie Moreno of Ruidoso, New Mexico; grandchildren Victoria Gonzales, Celina Nix, Adrian Gonzales, Caleb Roberson, Fredral Shade, Joseph Gonzales, Brittany Gonzales, XZavier Zimmerman; 19 great-grandchildren, granddaughter-in-law Jena Zimmerman, as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Juan and Camila Moreno, her brother Antonio “Tony” Moreno, and beloved grandson Devon Zimmerman.
Viola was a woman that was full of heart; she never met a stranger, was “mom” to a lot of people, not just her own children, and she loved her community in Kermit. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Viola enjoyed going to the casino to gamble as well as going dancing.
A funeral Mass for Viola will be held February 28, 2025, at 10 a.m. with a Rosary being recited beforehand at 9 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, in Fort Stockton, with inurnment immediately following at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Fort Stockton.
