FORT DAVIS — Beautiful golden barrel and claret cup cactus, astrophytum, whale’s tongue agave, faxon yucca, sotol, and many other species totaling about 1,000 plants, will be offered for sale at the Chihuahuan Desert Research Institute’s (CDRI) Cactus & Succulent Sale.
The sale kicks off on Monday, March 10, with the front gates open at 9 a.m.
All plants offered in the sale are native to the Chihuahuan Desert, with prices ranging from $5 to $150. Each plant has been grown from seed or offsets, and carefully sourced through reputable growers in Arizona, New Mexico and Texas. A wide variety of small cacti are available this year, with some in limited quantities.
The sale will take place on the porch of the Powell Visitor Center with CDRI’s head gardener, Faith Hille Dishron, and CDRI’s volunteers to assist shoppers with their selections. While visiting the site, be sure to stop inside and explore the gift shop, which offers handmade soaps and candles, unique dishtowels, native grasses bandanas, mugs and fresh roasted coffee, water bottles, a great selection of nature-themed books, walking sticks made on site, and many CDRI logo items.
The Cactus & Succulent Sale is one of only two yearly CDRI fundraisers, the other being the BBQ & Auction scheduled for August 9. CDRI invites you to come out and support your favorite area Nature Center & Botanical Gardens by finding that perfect cactus you’ll need for your home collection of distinctive cacti and succulents.
There are no early sales. A complete plant listing can be found at www.cdri.org. Only credit cards accepted. For additional information, please call 432-364-2499.
