MARFA — The Marfa Chamber of Commerce is throwing a Field Day and Community Picnic this Saturday, March 15, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Presidio County Courthouse. The all-day affair will feature lawn games, a rummage sale, maker’s market and more.
“We’ve got a lot of folks who come and visit for spring break — and the Marfa kids are out for spring break — and there’s just not a whole lot around town for them to do,” Chamber Secretary Lindsay Smith said. “We thought some lawn games and food and a big community picnic would be a good idea.”
The chamber combined forces with MarfaMUST, an online resource that helps visitors locate artists’ studios, for the gathering. Smith said, so far, 13 vendors were signed up to participate and more are welcome to join. “There’s going to be a little bit of everything, there’s going to be some art, there’s going to be some resale, there’s going to be some records,” Smith said.
Lawn games will include sack races, cornhole and inflatable bumper balls. Facepainting will also be available. Food vendors will include Spuntaneous Treats from Alpine, and the chamber will have hot dogs and sodas.
