Olga Prieto Church, a beloved member of the Marfa community, passed away on March 17, 2025, in El Paso, Texas, at the age of 82. She was born on November 5, 1942, in Marfa, Texas, to Catarino and Maria Baeza Prieto.

Olga’s life was marked by her dedication to education and her faith as a devout Catholic. She pursued her passion for teaching by obtaining a bachelor’s degree in education from Sul Ross State University in Alpine, Texas. Olga began her career as a student at the historic Blackwell School in Marfa and later became a teacher in both Presidio and Sierra Blanca, Texas. Her commitment to her students and her community did not go unnoticed; she was honored as the “Educator of the Year” in Sierra Blanca.

Olga was not only a dedicated educator but also an active volunteer, generously giving her time and energy to her church. Her contributions to the community will be remembered fondly by those whose lives she touched. She earned the title of “Steward of the Year” for the Diocese of El Paso in 2020.

She leaves behind her loving family, including her sister Yolanda Aguilar; her son Javier Moguel; her daughter Cecilia Bejarano; her son Russell M. Church; along with seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren who will cherish her memory and the love she bestowed upon them.

Olga is reunited in eternal rest with her parents, Catarino and Maria Baeza Prieto; her brother, Manuel “Mel” Prieto; and her sister Frances “Kika” Jimenez.

Visitation will be held on March 29, 2025, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Marfa, Texas, from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., followed by a prayer service at 9:30 a.m. A Mass will commence at 10 a.m., leading to her burial at Cementerio de la Merced at 11:15 a.m.

Olga will be deeply missed, but her legacy of love, education and faith will endure in the hearts of her family, friends, and all who were fortunate to know her.
