PRESIDIO — Highway 170 east toward Redford is now open after police and Border Patrol officers apprehended a man they reported to be on foot and firing shots early Thursday morning east of Presidio.
Facebook posts from the Presidio County Sheriff’s Office began around 8 a.m. this morning, and Highway 170 was closed. At least one helicopter was brought in to try and locate or keep track of the suspect.
According to police, the man made his way toward Presidio High School where he was apprehended just south of the track field.

Presidio County Sheriff Danny Dominguez spoke shortly after the man was in custody, and he said he’s still gathering details on the incident and was unsure if the man will be detained by Border Patrol for some length of time or head to the Presidio County Jail in Marfa.

The subject that was shooting rounds this morning was captured this morning at approximately 9:45 a.m. Police Officers and Sheriff’s Deputies captured and arrested the subject with no incident just South of the track field.
Thanks to US Border Patrol, HSI, Presidio Police and Sheriff’s Deputies for the quick response. FM 170 is OPEN

FM 170 EAST towards Redford/Lajitas at the East edge of Presidio will be shut down for safety due to an unknown possibly suicidal individual actively shooting rounds in random directions and towards FM 170. Sheriff’s Deputies and other law enforcement have secured the perimeter and no one has been injured at this point.
Please stay away from the area for your safety. Additional information will be released when available.
