AUSTIN – Last week, the Texas Senate approved Senate Bill 7 and Senate Joint Resolution 66, joint-authored by Sen. César Blanco, who represents the tri-county area. The bill and resolution would provide $1 billion in dedicated funds every year to expand Texas’ water supply, strengthen infrastructure, and secure Texas’ water future.
“From the tap water that keeps our families healthy and hydrated to the water tanks that feed our crops, water is the lifeblood of our community,” Blanco said “Yet, many communities in West Texas still struggle with access to clean water and continue to face drought conditions.
“SB 7 and SJR 66 will invest $1 billion in the Texas Water Fund and the New Water Supply for Texas Fund to improve water security for our region,” Blanco said. “This funding will help upgrade aging water infrastructure, repair leaking pipes, and create new water supplies, especially in rural communities. West Texans know the challenges of drought and water scarcity firsthand, and understand the need for bold action to secure our water future.”
