I understand the Office of Management and Budget, at the direction of DOGE, plans drastic cuts at NOAA (National Oceanic & Atmospheric Agency). This is an open letter to U.S. Senator Ted Cruz:

“Senator Cruz, I live in Texas. The cuts to NOAA — and its research branch OAR (Oceanic and Atmospheric Research) scheduled to be cut by 75% — would be catastrophic! OAR scientists are world-class researchers studying the atmosphere and oceans. They provide to NOAA’s National Weather Service crucial information for severe weather predictions that allow Texans to prepare for our increasing hazardous weather events: floods, droughts, wildfires, tornadoes, and hurricanes. You should be concerned about Texas residents being adversely impacted — resulting in loss of lives and millions if not billions of dollars in damage.

Senator Cruz — as Chairman of the Commerce, Science & Transportation Committee in the U.S. Senate, you have POWER to ADVOCATE and to PUSH BACK against dangerous cuts to NOAA! I’m asking you, Senator Cruz, to step up and fulfill your elected role in our federal government. Please, it’s YOUR job in Congress to appropriate federal dollars and to direct spending levels — not DOGE’s job!  Senator Cruz, you represent the people of Texas. The better the weather predictions, the fewer people die and less government dollars spent on the recovery. Tell DOGE to back off & leave the decisions TO CONGRESS about what programs to fund. Do not let DOGE gut NOAA and OAR. Thank you, sir, for standing up for Texas and our safety!”

Fellow citizens, if you live in Texas, please call Senator Ted Cruz’s offices. (Washington DC office 202-224-5922; Austin office 512-916-5834; Dallas office 214-599-8749; Houston office 713-718-3057)  Every phone call is logged — make your voice heard!!  Ted Cruz is Chairman of the Senate Committee that oversees NOAA, so he is likely in a better position than anyone to effectively push back against the plan to kill NOAA. Please make your calls soon, as the decision will be made this week.

Signed,
