John Paul Schwartz has been an essential part of Marfa Country Clinic from the moment we opened our doors in May 2010, together with Irma Leos and Natasha Rogall. He built a culture of care with deep medical knowledge and expertise, pragmatic advice, and deadpan wit. He has marked the lives of innumerable patients in our region, always taking the time to listen and address their individual needs. A real country doctor he was, in the best possible way.
Our staff learned so much from JP throughout the years. He regarded all of us as equals, nourishing the thirst for learning of the staff, playing a major role in pushing some of them to medical school.
Much has changed recently with him moving out of our area and now our lives. We will and already do miss JP’s presence, leadership, guidance, and mostly just JP being JP.
Dr. Schwartz was a part of the community committing acts of medical and musical magic for all of us to behold. RIP JP.
