SAN MARCOS — This weekend, five students in Adele Powers’ art class traveled to state VASE (Visual Art Scholastic Event) in San Marcos to see the best work made by high school artists in Texas.

Francisco “Kiko” Rosas’ piece, Electric Dandelions, advanced to state after receiving the highest score of “4” at regionals in Odessa in March and was then chosen by a panel of judges to advance. In San Marcos Rosas received a medal for his work.

Powers’ other students who received a score of “4” at regionals joined Kiko to get inspired for next year’s competition. In addition to attending VASE and viewing hundreds of artworks in a variety of media, the group went to the outlet mall, swam in the river and took a glow-in-the-dark kayak tour.
