It is with profound grief and sadness that we announce the death of our mother, Elisa Garcia Galindo, on October 4, 2024, in San Marcos, Texas. She was 100 years old. Our mother was born to Emiliano Garcia and Dolores Quintela on September 27, 1924, in Marfa, Texas. She was a graduate of Marfa High School. She married Israel Galindo and was the mother of six children: Israel Jr., Eloy, Nora, Dora, Oscar and Helen. After Oscar graduated from high school, she went to work for the food stamp program. She then became a foster mother for nine years, caring for children who needed a home. At 59 years old, she went back to school, graduating from Sul Ross State University’s nursing program in 1983. She then worked for home health care agencies and nursing homes in El Paso and Dallas for almost a decade.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Emiliano and Dolores Garcia; her brothers, Sam and Frank; her sister, Minnie; her husband, Israel; her son Israel Jr.; her granddaughter Casey; her grandson Cid Galindo; and her great-grandson Joey.
She is survived by her children Eloy Galindo, and wife, Lorena, of El Paso, Texas; Nora Gold and husband, Joseph, of San Diego, California; Dora Galindo of Grand Prairie, Texas; Oscar and wife, Jeannette, of Tyrone, Georgia; and Helen Sotelo and husband, Jesus Noel Sotelo. She leaves behind 17 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. She wished to be buried with her mother in Marfa’s Merced Cemetery. Graveside services will be held on May 17, 2025, at 11 a.m.
