Lucy “Ity” Herrera was born and raised in Marfa, Texas, to Jose Olivas and Otilia Contreras on April 24, 1933. She married Jesus “Chuchi” M. Herrera on November 16, 1952, and moved to Presidio, Texas, where they raised their three children, Martha Brummet, Graciela “Chely” Baeza, and Jesus “Junie” Herrera. She was a beloved grandmother and great-grandmother to 8 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She was the anchor of the family, filling us all with joy and cheer. She always received us with open arms or a shoulder to cry on, and of course, a home-cooked meal and a delicious dessert.

Ity passed away June 7, 2025, peacefully at home, leaving her family a void that will never be filled. We find comfort in knowing that her legacy lives on in the lessons that she gave us and all the love she shared. The memories we have of her will be cherished forever.

Ity is preceded in death by her spouse, Jesus M. Herrera; her parents, Jose Olivas and Otilia Contreras; and her brother, Richard Olivas.

Ity is survived by her daughters, Martha H (Jerry) Brummett, Chely H (Salvador Jr.) Baeza; son Jesus Manuel Herrera aka Junie; siblings Jose (Prieto) Olivas, David C. Olivas, Imelda Santana, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces, and cousins.

Pallbearers will be Sesar H. Baeza, Jesus “Chuchi” Baeza, Sesar G. Baeza Jr., Salvador Emmanuel Baeza IV, Michael Santana, and Jacob Reyes.

A Rosary will be held on Friday, June 13, 2025, at 7 p.m. at Santa Teresa Church.

The Funeral Mass will take place on Saturday, June 14, 2025, at 9 a.m., also at Santa Teresa Church, with Father Mike Alcuino officiating. Burial will follow at Desert Hill Cemetery.
