FORT DAVIS — Books galore! Some great books are in store for visitors to the festivities on Saturday, July 5. The Friends of the Jeff Davis County Library will host its annual book sale outside the library under the west awning in the shade. Running from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m., the sale will have something for everyone, with most items selling in “Books for a Buck.” The array is amazing. A special group of collectible books in Texana, history, and other topics will be offered starting at $5 each. All proceeds benefit the Friends of the Library which provides support to the library.
The big parade through the main street of Fort Davis starts Saturday at 10 a.m. and is always the highlight of the weekend, along with the 11 a.m. pet pageant of Grand Companions, the pie contest to benefit the food pantry at 2 p.m., plus many vendors selling food and a variety of items starting at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 4. The Independence Day Family Barn Dance at the Kelly Pavilion starts at 7 p.m., and the fireworks extravaganza at 9:45 p.m. is planned for the Jeff Davis County Park.
