From The New Era

May 22, 1926

Folks beware. We now have a deputy marshal, our public-spirited marshal, Mr. Raetzsch, who in the past has been too busy looking after good roads and other civic interests to pay very much attention to the speed demons, drunks, etc., has appointed a deputy, Mr. Jimmy Schote, and he packs a mean looking gat. Mr. Schote is not a large man and looks as though he might be under a strain when he packs that great big gun, but it evens his chances with the biggest of them.

They say that while Mr. Schote has been in the Big Bend section he has had considerable experience in hunting (especially badgers) so he must be a pretty good shot with that pretty little pistol of his.

So beware, you would be Old-fields and bad yeggmen, our deputy is coming out, and he is steppin’ high, wide and handsome.
