The Marfa High School Golf team placed second in the recent Class AA State Golf Tournament with David Walker as fourth medalist and Ronnie Martinez as fifth medalist and second place in the tournament.
Walker shot a 78-78 for 156 and Martinez came in with a 82-79 for 161. Team members Sammy Jimenez shot 94-88 for 182, Scott Taylor had 93-92 for 185 and Danny Armendariz shot 87-97 for 184 for a team total of 683.
Mart led the field with a 661 on the strong rounds by third medalist Bob Brewer with a 76-75 for 151. San Saba was third in the tournament with a 687 and Troup was fourth at an even 700. Hamlin and Nocona tied for fifth place with 719 each.
First medalist for the tournament was Bill Bryant of Dublin with 73-74 for 147. Second medalist was Kelly Warner of Bullard with 75-73 for 147. Second medalist was Kelly Warner of Bullard with 75-73 for 148. Scott Perry of Winters shot 79-82 for 161 and Robbie Munphrey of San Saba shot 82-79 to tie with Martinez for fifth medalist.
This is the first year that a Marfa golf team has competed on the state level.
