MARFA — This Friday, August 1, Chinati artist in residence Guadalupe Rosales will host an open studio and reading event at the Locker Plant.
Rosales is a multidisciplinary artist working across sculpture, photography, video, sound, drawing and archival projects. She is best known for her community-generated, social media-based archives, including “Veteranas and Rucas” and “Map Pointz.”
Rosales conceived of the accounts in 2015 as a means to combat the under-/misrepresentation and historical erasure of Latin@/x communities in Southern California. They began with an open invitation to share personal images and memories and have amassed a social media following of over 300,000.
At the open studio event, Rosales will present a selection of these archival materials and read from her upcoming book, to be published by One World Books in June 2026, which documents both her personal and communal artistic practices.
