MARFA — Celebrate the last day of Summer Reading with Marfa Public Library’s Mad Hatter Tea Party, this Saturday, August 9, from 11 a.m. to noon. There will be a celebratory tea party, with tea, lemonade, and mini cakes from Bitter Sugar, plus tea-cup painting and croquet. Wear party clothes and prepare for a very unmerry birthday to all!
The tea party heralds the end of Summer Reading, so all readers should log their final reading by midnight on Saturday, August 9. Until midnight, participants can earn gift cards to local coffee shops, visits to the Treasure Chest, ice cream vouchers to Bordo, and entries for the grand prizes. Grand prizes include a Yoto Mini Player, lava lamp, 3D doodler, Beats headphones, and a Yeti cooler. Read to win, win to read!
While at the library, be sure to pop in and see the library’s summer Make Believe Marfa installation, “Down the Reading Rabbit Hole,” which features elements from storybook favorites, like Alice in Wonderland and Harold and the Purple Crayon, and a recreation of the bedroom in Goodnight Moon. Additionally, five golden tickets are hidden in books around the library, a la Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, which will earn finders mystery prizes.
Thanks to volunteers Ross Cashiola, Harry Crofton, Lisa Kettyle, Joni Marginot, Adeline Schowengerdt, Bob Schwab, Sammy Serdar-Espinoza, Suzy Simon and everyone at Bitter Sugar. Generous support provided by the Dollar General Literacy Foundation, which awarded the Friends of the Marfa Public Library a $2,500 grant.
The tea party is free and open to all — even adults! — so stop by for a last summer bash. For more information, call 432-729-4631, visit marfapubliclibrary.org and follow @marfalibrary on Instagram.
