ALPINE — Workforce Solutions Borderplex and Odessa College are proud to announce a fully funded Certified Medical Assistant training program launching this August at Big Bend Regional Medical Center. This 16-week program is designed to address the growing need for healthcare professionals in rural West Texas.
The initiative offers residents of the Big Bend region a unique opportunity to earn their National Healthcareer Association (NHA) certification through a course that combines in-person and hybrid instruction. Tuition and course fees are fully covered by a Workforce Solutions Borderplex Grant, making the program entirely free for eligible participants.
Classes begin August 25, 2025, and will be held Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Big Bend Regional Medical Center, located at 2600 TX-118, Alpine, TX 79830.
“This program is more than a training course. It’s a pathway to a stable, high-demand career that helps meet critical workforce needs in rural healthcare,” said Leila Melendez, CEO for Workforce Solutions Borderplex. “We are committed to ensuring local residents have access to career-building opportunities close to home.”
Space is limited, and an interview process will be conducted for all applicants. Participants must also have a COMPLIO account prior to enrollment. Interested individuals are encouraged to apply early by emailing conted@odessa.edu or calling 432-335-6580.
