PRESIDIO COUNTY — Pending a final vote, an election triggered by a petition against Presidio County taking on debt for pricey courthouse renovations will be held on November 4. The petition was launched back in June by Presidio City Council Member Fernando Juarez, who was concerned about the prospect of the county taking on $5.5 million in debt to tackle long-pending issues at the courthouse requiring emergency repairs.
At Wednesday morning’s meeting of the Presidio County Commissioners Court, Juarez made an appearance in person to talk through the details of holding the election. He wanted to make it clear that the petition was intended to benefit all county residents, rather than focusing solely on Presidio. “It’s for the people of Presidio County,” he said. “We have to break from this north-versus-south thing.”
