VALENTINE — Gary Morton, 61, of Valentine died on Monday after a long hospitalization from a head injury sustained in an August 2 altercation at the Valentine Bar on E Highway 90.
The Texas Rangers are investigating the case to see what if any charges may be filed against the other party in the altercation, Maxie Slover, 62, of Valentine. The Big Bend Sentinel has filed an open records request to get basic information on the incident from the Texas Rangers.
One source who saw security video of the incident said Morton was knocked out after a scuffle resulted in him falling and hitting his head on the floor of the bar, while another said he was also struck by Slover while on the ground. Slover could not be reached for comment.
