MARFA—The art studio and gallery, Brothers Art Marfa, at 220 West Texas Street, is reopening its doors. It first opened in 2014 and after a few successful years closed due health problems of owner Christa Brothers. 

This Friday, October 3, from 6 to 8 p.m., everyone is invited to come and toast to new beginnings with a glass of wine. Thrilled to be back in Marfa, Brothers is picking up where she left off, creating an inviting space for artists and art patrons alike.

Besides the gallery, showcasing art from local to international artists, there are also more studio spaces in the planning, allowing for collaboration among visiting artists. The inaugural art show opening will have Billy Keen’s art—combining the representational, the abstract and the sculptural in his work—Rose Sheehy’s sculptural pieces, Rose Anderson-Lewis, and drawings and paintings by Christa Brothers, owner of Brothers Art Marfa and longtime artist herself.

Keen received many awards in his 50-plus years working as an artist and has his work in numerous public and private collections. Key to his art, Keen explores the tension between beauty and fragility, between the reptilian brain and higher thinking, between fate, faith and free will. 

Sheehy studied fashion design and worked for many years as a jewelry designer. Many will remember her store here in Marfa—Velvet Antler. Now she is bringing all her experience of form, line, color and material from her work as a designer to the realm of fine art.

Brothers’ art also considers the lines and forms found in nature. In paintings and drawings, she sets out to uncover the underlying structure and patterns, which can be found in a mountain range, a cliff wall, a mathematical formula, or in a piece of tree bark.
