PRESIDIO—Two people were killed in a crash north of Presidio Friday (October 3) afternoon on Highway 67, according to local authorities. Residents in Presidio and travelers north to Marfa noted that traffic was significantly delayed in both directions.

On Monday (October 6) , Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace Juanita Bishop identified the deceased victims from one of the trucks in the collision as Refugio Castillo, 59, and Juan Jose Rodriguez, 82, both of Pecos.

According to an initial DPS report, a vehicle with four passengers headed southbound about 12 mile north of Presidio in a Chevrolet Avalanche swerved into a second vehicle–a 2017 GMC Sierra–headed northbound and collided head on. Both fatalities were in the Avalanche.

A 60-year-old woman in the Sierra was critically injurd and airlifted to an Odessa hospital. The driver, a 60-year-old man, was not injured. Both were from Hardesty, Oklsahoma.
