Consider Maremma dogs to protect livestock
I’m not from around here, but would like to suggest that livestock guardian dogs are an excellent solution to herd protection. I had a ranch in Northern California with two Maremmas guarding my sheep and mohair goats. They were so effective, even my chickens did not have to be cooped at night. I witnessed one dog engage with and fend off an exceptionally large coyote, easily the size of a wolf. I didn’t think these dogs would attack, only protect, and run off predators. Maremmas are from the Abruzzo mountain range in Italy. Similar appearance to a Great Pyrenees. These dogs are independent, intelligent, and magnificent. Farmers throughout the western states have been learning to employ multiple livestock guardian dogs to manage predation instead of lethal control.
I hope you can print this. My dogs were so extraordinary, I want to spread the word.
Cheers,
