In 2021, the collected artworks of American artist Robert Mallary were rediscovered in shipping containers in New Haven, Connecticut. The conservation and restoration of the work has been an ongoing endeavor, including exhibitions in Basel, Paris, Berlin, and Tokyo. The American reintroduction of Mallary’s work will be hosted in Marfa during Art Blocks Weekend at the Wrong Marfa’s Do Right Hall at 110 W. Dallas St. from October 16 to 19, from noon to 7 p.m. daily.

Cybernetic Highway is the first single artist exhibition of artworks by Robert Mallary since 2019. Featuring sculptures, computer drawings, etchings, paintings, and an augmented reality installation, this selection is the most comprehensive retrospective of his work since 1968.

Seven decades of artworks in various mediums are represented by Mallary’s early engravings and prints from Mexico City in the 1930s—his experiments with computer generated drawings in the late 1960s through the 1980s and late outputs of digital graphics in the 1990s. His computer generated sculpture Quad I will be shown for the first time since its 1969 presentation at the landmark ICA show Cybernetic Serendipity in London; accompanied by his bronze cast sculpture Seated Figure, last shown at Allan Stone Gallery in 1966.

Cybernetic Highway aims to document the long-term trajectory of Robert Mallary’s career and his integration of technological practices into a life of creative output.
