The Paisano Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) presented Good Citizen Awards to seniors from area high schools at an awards ceremony on Sunday afternoon, February 1, 2026, held in the First Presbyterian Church of Alpine.
Good Citizens from their graduating classes were selected by their schools based on the qualities of dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism. The 2026 Good Citizens are: Andrea Michelle Johnson, Alpine; Thomas Garcia, Alpine Christian; Anthony Pattillo, Big Bend; Elsa Rayne Damm, Fort Davis; Marco Brionez, Marathon; and Ava Flores, Marfa. They each received a Good Citizen’s pin, monetary award, and certificate honoring them with this prestigious national award.
On behalf of the Paisano Chapter, DAR Regent Judy Perry welcomed Good Citizens and their families to the meeting. Dr. Kendra DeHart, Paisano Chapter historian and associate professor of history and chair of behavioral and social sciences at Sul Ross State University, presented the awards. Matt Walter, retired U.S. Coast Guard and retired curator of history at the Museum of the Big Bend, presented a program on “Flags of the American Revolution” to celebrate the 250th birthday of America. Following the awards and program, DAR members and guests enjoyed a reception honoring the Good Citizens.
