Marfa ISD High School students competed in UTPB’s Regional Science and Engineering Fair Valentine’s weekend in February. The school had eight projects enter the competition and seven advance to the State Science and Engineering Fair in College Station, Texas, at the end of
March.
Award winners included:

Second place Plant Science: Ayven Pippen and Giselle Torres, “The Amazing POWER of Aquaponics.”
Second place Cellular Biology: Ava Flores, Amaya Gomez and Raven Martinez, “Cellular Reaggregation Dynamics in Poriferan Dissociated Cell Populations.”
Second place Robotics: Christopher Huerta, Dylan Ibarra and Sara Salgado, “A.R.E.S — Auto Reactive Engagement System.”
Second place Animal Science: Madison Cash, Zoey Salgado and Itzel Urrita, “TIck Tock.”
Second place Environmental Science: Piper Donaldson, “The Naturalization of Invasive Species on the Rio Grande.”
Second place Environmental Engineering: Messiah Licon and Isaiah Ramos, “When Nature Calls … Power Answers.”
Third place Environmental Engineering: Asael Zubia, Dariela Munioz and Belen Soto, “Whoosh.”
High school science teacher Elizabeth Donaldson said, “The Science and Engineering Fairs provide an excellent opportunity to inspire students to explore potential careers in STEM fields. They also offer a structured academic setting in which students can share ideas, engage in meaningful discussions and effectively communicate their scientific thinking with their peers. I have enjoyed supporting my students in their quest for knowledge and watching them fall in love with science!”
