The 134 PAC, a political action committee formed to engage with rural communities in supporting Democratic candidates, has appointed Ramon Aranda Rodríguez as regional director for the Big Bend region of Texas, including Marfa and Presidio.
Rodríguez, a community leader and political organizer from Presidio County, currently serves as the outgoing chair of the Presidio County Democratic Party.

The appointment reflects The 134 PAC’s continued expansion following its Rural Texas Summit held in Bastrop earlier this year. The summit brought together leaders from across rural Texas to strengthen relationships, share resources, and begin building a unified, long-term strategy for rural engagement.
“Ramon has already been doing this work,” said Carla Schoonover-Porter, co-founder of The 134 PAC. “He understands that in rural Texas, relationships are the work. His leadership in the Big Bend region will help us continue building something that lasts.”
Rodríguez serves as a Project Manager for Big Bend Conservation Alliance and is the founder of Project Homeleaf, where he leads initiatives focused on green infrastructure, climate resilience, and environmental education across rural border communities. His work is rooted in public service, conservation, and strengthening local leadership.
The 134 PAC will continue its expansion efforts at the Texas Democratic Party Convention in Corpus Christi this June, where the organization will host a booth and connect with leaders from across the state.
Building on that momentum, The 134 PAC plans to host a regional rural summit in the Big Bend area later this year. The event will bring together local leaders, organizers, and community members to deepen relationships and strengthen a coordinated rural coalition.
“This is how we grow,” Porter said. “Community by community and region by region.”
