Big Bend Sentinel, a fixture of independent local journalism in the high desert for 100 years, is preparing a weekend of festivities to celebrate its centennial anniversary. The Big Bend Sentinel Centennial will take place from Friday, June 19, through Sunday, June 21, and will feature a mix of music, art, and critical community conversations.

The marquee event is the Centennial Concert, scheduled for 8 p.m. Saturday, June 20 at the Saint George Hall in Marfa. The evening will be headlined by West Texas musical legend Jimmie Dale Gilmore, along with a cast of special guests. Ticket information is forthcoming.

The weekend’s activities will kick off Friday afternoon with a round-table discussion focused on current border issues, which will be free and open to the public.

Art and history will also be featured Saturday with the Stop-the-Wall Art Show. The sale will showcase posters, books, and exclusive merchandise from the Sentinel and regional advocacy groups.

Throughout the three-day event, a series of gatherings will be held for readers and sponsors to reflect on the paper’s 100-year legacy. Readers interested in participating can contact publisher@bigbendsentinel.com.
