Presidio County
Presidio County Commissioners heard Wednesday at their meeting that they had been awarded a $500,000 grant from the state for the Rural Ambulance Service Grant Program.
While the need for up-to-date ambulances is always something sought in the county, figuring out how to spend the money will take a bit of work.
Commissioner Deirdre Hisler told the court that during the grant application process it was decided that a new or refurbished ambulance would go to the city of Presidio. Ramon Rodriguez, who worked on the grant for the county, said Presidio would score higher on the metrics to rank applications and have a higher chance of success.
The county contracts with both Presidio and Marfa to provide ambulance services. The grant terms, however, mandate that the county retain ownership of any ambulance funded by the grant. “Ultimately we’re going to see how we’re going to run with this,” said County Attorney Blair Park, noting that officials will have to see how to best use the money while meeting the requirements of the grant.
