The City Council will meet Thursday at 6 p.m. to hear a presentation on proposed tax rates for the next fiscal year.
Also on the agenda is a continuing discussion about a long-term lease of the city’s purple and white water tower to Verizon for antenna placements, with a proposed one-time payment to the city of $500,000. The council had not moved forward in a meaningful way on the issue by its July 14 meeting, although it agreed to an engagement with legal counsel with expertise on such leases, if counsel ended up being needed.
Council will hear from Ramon Rodriguez for an update on a NADBank technical assistance grant for solid waste management.
And members are scheduled to get an update on a grant application to the Texas Water Development Board to fund wastewater improvements near Fort D.A. Russell and the East Heights. The board has told officials the city is not eligible to apply for the grant because it had ceded ownership of the property to Presidio County for an initial planning grant that was awarded for the projects. The county can’t apply because it is behind on its required annual audits. Council members also can take action on paying Trey Gerfers, who was coordinating the grant applications, for work already performed.
The council will also discuss requests for funding from the county for EMS services and who should attend budget meetings and workshops to “advocate for increased EMS funding.”
