Oct 17 1935 – August 3,  2026

Dorothy Fern Winn (née Jones), age 90, peacefully passed away on August 3, 2026. She was born on October 17, 1935, in Sweetwater, Texas, to Evan B. Jones and Maggie B. Jones (née Morris).

Dorothy grew up in Marfa, Texas, where she graduated from Marfa High School in 1953 and then attended Sul Ross State University in Alpine, Texas. After attending Sul Ross, she lived in both Virginia and California while traveling with her ex-husband who served in the U.S. Army. In 1957, she moved to Dallas and lived the rest of her years in the DFW metroplex. She was a homemaker, then began working in real estate in the 1980s. Following her time in real estate, she began her time working for Neiman Marcus, where she dedicated over 20 years before her retirement in the early 2000s.

Dorothy enjoyed volunteering her time to important causes. Throughout her adulthood, she was actively involved in local politics, contributing her time and efforts to local political campaigns. In the early 2000s she volunteered with the Shepherd’s Center in Dallas, where she spent time supporting veterans at the VA Hospital and helped plan senior activities. When she moved to McKinney, Texas, over 13 years ago, she joined First McKinney Baptist Church and was a devoted member. She enjoyed attending senior Sunday school classes and church services.

Dorothy found joy in sharing a meal with close friends, reminiscing about growing up in Marfa, and spending cherished time with her family. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her daughter, Venetia Winn; her granddaughter, Michelle Hunter; and her husband, Thomas Hunter of Lewisville, Texas.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Evan B. Jones and Maggie B. Morris.
