Write-in Ida Dominguez for Presidio County commissioner
My name is Ida Dominguez, and I am asking for your vote as a write-in candidate for Presidio County Commissioner Precinct 4 in the November 3 general election.
Presidio County is my lifelong home, and my roots run deep here, tracing back to the late 19th century, when my grandfather, Esteban Ochoa, established Rancho Ochoa, about 10 miles upriver from Presidio. The ranch grew into a farming settlement of about 75 families, a school, and a store. My grandfather was a grandson of area pioneer Ben Leaton, who established Fort Leaton, now a state historic site near Presidio. I’m proud to be a fifth-generation member of this land.
I spent the first 25 years of my life in Presidio. Shortly after marrying my husband, Danny Dominguez, we moved to Marfa when he accepted a position with the Marfa Police Department. In 1997, he was elected sheriff of Presidio County, a role he proudly continues to serve in today, totaling 29 years of dedication to our communities and county.
Here’s what I pledge if elected: to adopt fair and balanced county budgets, supporting border security with existing personnel and 21st century technology but no walls or barriers, fighting against data centers, and protecting our precious water resources in our beautiful but fragile desert and mountains.
As commissioner, I will faithfully listen to and represent not only the residents of Precinct 4 but all of Presidio County.
My passion for service has been shaped by my faith, my religion, and my devotion to God. As an active member of the First Baptist Church of Marfa, I wear many hats to assist my brothers and sisters in Christ. Our shared purpose is to serve our community.
Through my husband’s role as sheriff and our leadership in the church, we actively host community initiatives, especially for our youth. Over the years we have partnered with the Brown Santa program for the Christmas toy giveaway, distributing laptops, Nintendo consoles, bicycles, and iPads.
There’s the annual back-to-school backpack and supply giveaway. This year, we introduced, with the help of community members, a Back-to-School Giving Tree, distributing 27 pairs of shoes to struggling families and their children in Marfa, Ruidosa, and Candelaria.
I also assist in our family’s small business, Big Bend Security Company. We have provided security for the Village Farms tomato greenhouses near Marfa and Fort Davis for years, at Blue Origin, at El Cosmico, and we’ve been contracted to provide security work on film and music video locations, as well as public and private events.
Together, Danny and I raised three wonderful children who all graduated from Marfa ISD, and we’re so proud of them and our grandchildren:
• Alex Downs and husband Brian Downs, and their son and daughter, William James and Santana. They reside in The Woodlands, Texas, but are currently living in Bangalore, India.
• Rocio Landin and husband Jaime and their two daughters, Gisselle and Emme, who live in McAllen, Texas.
• Conrad and Janin Dominguez and son Silas. They live in Hereford, Texas.
