Marfa ISD was awarded the 2026 Community Partnerships Grant to strengthen parent and community engagement and build partnerships that support student goals and success. The grant also helps the district address barriers to learning by connecting students and families with health, mental health, and social resources. Through this funding, Marfa ISD has been able to host events such as Summer Bash 2026 and will offer after-school tutorials to help students improve their academic performance. These opportunities support the district’s continued work to Elevate Excellence and improve its rating.
The 2026 Community Celebration, made possible by the grant, will take place on Thursday, September 24, 2026. The event is an opportunity to recognize the ongoing support of parents, families, and community partners and to bring everyone together around a shared goal: helping our students succeed.
Students and families will have the opportunity to participate in the traditional Painting of the Hooves on Lincoln Street. This longstanding tradition is a visible expression of Shorthorn pride, welcoming visitors and reminding our community that these are the streets we proudly walk and drive together.
With homecoming approaching, parents and community members are also invited to help wrap the “M” for the pep rally. The “M” is usually seen from a distance during the Burning of the M, so this gathering will give families a chance to take part in preparing it and to take photos with it. It will be especially meaningful for our seniors to take photos with the “M” before their final Burning of the M as students.
The celebration will feature live music generously provided by DJ Chuck Salgado and Tara Salgado. Their contribution reflects both the support of our community partners and the giving spirit of our district families; DJ Chuck and Tara have three children enrolled at Marfa ISD. Longtime community supporter Dairy Queen has generously donated supplies to ensure attendees have plenty of food and treats, and the Marfa Police Department will be cooking for everyone. At 7 p.m., cheer sponsor Donel Hartnett and our mini cheerleaders will present the group’s first public performance following camp. Guests can also enjoy photo opportunities and prize giveaways.
The Community Celebration will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at 400 W. Lincoln Street, between the football field and the bus barn. We look forward to celebrating the families and community partners whose continued support makes opportunities like these possible for our students.
