Presidio — Paris has come to Presidio with a new exhibition at The Dreamers Gallery. Owner and curator Adele Jancovici hosted an opening featuring a selection of drawings by artist Marko Kolomytskyi.

The young Ukrainian-born artist was recently awarded for his work at Beaux-Arts Paris, one of the most prestigious art schools in Europe. He already boasts a long resume of installation and performance exhibitions across Europe and Japan. A chance encounter in Paris this spring sprouted a friendship between the artist and curator.

“I met Marko at a very strange time,” says Jancovici. “My father had just died, I was visiting a friend’s gallery in Paris and Marko’s solo show was up. We started talking and immediately dove into a conversation about death, memory and loving ghosts.

Kolomytskyi’s art is informed by the Russia-Ukraine war, the death of his mother and his time spent in Asia. These drawings represent the newest act for Kolomytskyi, who only recently started drawing and has already been recognized as a rising talent. The new medium is a raw departure from his methodical, precise earlier installation and performance works. The three works are meant to represent his unconscious spilling out onto the page, releasing his nervous system onto paper.

“The act itself of drawing is cathartic here,” Jancovici says in the exhibition statement, likening the deep, moody drawings to a primal scream. The artist agrees.

“The process is chaotic and intimate, closer to cooking than to composition,” says Kolomytskyi in a statement. “Through drawing, I realized that nothing needs to be explained.”

The opening was well-attended, and marks the first major event at The Dreamer’s Gallery this fall. “Through the touch of my hand” will run until January 27 at The Dreamers Gallery in Presidio.
