I am running for County Commissioner Precinct 4, and I ask for your vote. Precinct 4 encompasses most of Marfa west of Alamito Creek and the ranchland to the north and the west, all the way to the river, including most of Chispa Road. My husband and I live on a ranch west of town where he is the foreman. We grew up in Central Texas and moved to the Big Bend years ago.
For more than 30 years Iโve worked public issues as a lawyer, volunteer advocate, and as a lobbyist, learning how government really works. I am board certified in Legislative and Campaign Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. I bring relationships and experience to Presidio County to work for its future.
Most recently, Iโve put my time and experience to use fighting against the Border Wall boondoggle. We donโt need it. Itโs a waste of money. And, it will gut our tourism economy. And, this county needs so much more out of its government: Healthcare, better schools, and better roads for a start.
As commissioner I will represent Marfa and the land, but I will fight for the whole county.
In many ways I am already doing the work as commissioner, such as by advocating for a new election administrator position to take a complicated job off the plates our county clerk and tax assessor-collector, helping the airport with a land-swap deal to enable improvements to a runway, and, of course, protecting our land and our tourism economy by fighting the border wall. I helped expose the border wall contractors for plowing through the Porvenir Massacre site, working to protect an important, undervalued piece of Presidio County history.
I also have experience overseeing budgets as board president of the Texas Civil Rights Project (counsel in Friends of Ruidosa Church v. DHS fighting the border wall) and other nonprofits.
Bringing our tax dollars back down to Presidio County takes a work ethic, good relationships with other elected officials, and the gumption to leave no opportunity untaken.
Presidio County deserves good, honest government. Iโm here to provide it.
Susan Hays
Democratic Nominee for County Commissioner, Pct. 4
Presidio County has been my lifelong home, and my roots here run deep. My familyโs history in this county reaches back to the late 19th century, when my grandfather, Esteban Ochoa, established Rancho Ochoa about 10 miles upriver from Presidio. I am proud to be a fifth-generation member of this land and community.
I spent the first 25 years of my life in Presidio. After marrying my husband, Danny Dominguez, we moved to Marfa when he joined the Marfa Police Department. In 1997, he was elected Presidio County Sheri๏ฌ, and our family has continued making Presidio County our home.
Over the years, service to our community has become an important part of my life. Through our church and community partnerships, I have helped with Christmas giveaways, back-to-school backpack and school-supply distributions, clothing and shoe drives, and other e๏ฌorts focused especially on our children and families.
That same desire to serve is why I am asking the voters of Precinct 4 for the opportunity to serve as their County Commissioner.
If elected, I will work for fair and responsible county budgets, protection of our precious water resources, and common-sense approaches to border security using our existing personnel and modern technology.
But serving as commissioner is also about listening. I want residents to know that their concerns matter and that they have someone willing to hear them, ask questions, and represent them at Commissioners Court.
My faith has taught me that leadership begins with service. I am not seeking this o๏ฌce simply for a title. I am asking for the opportunity to work for the people and the county that have been part of my life for generations.
On November 3, I humbly ask the voters of Precinct 4 to write in Ida Dominguez for Presidio County Commissioner, Precinct 4.
Thank you for your consideration.
